6 Days Kilimanjaro Climb – Shira Route

6 Days

Overview

The Shira Route is one of the less-traveled paths to Mount Kilimanjaro, offering a unique ascent that starts at a higher altitude, making it suitable for trekkers with prior high-altitude experience. This scenic route crosses the Shira Plateau, a vast expanse of volcanic landscapes, with breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers, dramatic ridges, and valleys. Over six days, you’ll experience diverse ecosystems, from lush rainforests to alpine deserts, before reaching the majestic Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the highest point in Africa.

The 6-Day Shira Route begins with a drive to Londorossi Gate, followed by an off-road transfer to the Shira Gate, where the trek starts at an impressive altitude of 3,600 meters. The route traverses the spectacular Shira Plateau, offering panoramic views of the mountain’s western glaciers. As you ascend, you’ll encounter dramatic landscapes, from heath and moorlands to rocky alpine deserts. The route merges with the Lemosho and Machame routes before the final summit push via Stella Point.
