The Rongai Route is the only trail that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the north near the Kenyan border, offering a quieter, drier, and more remote experience. It features beautiful wilderness, excellent views of Mawenzi, and a gentle ascent profile, making it suitable for climbers with varying fitness levels. This 7-day itinerary allows for better acclimatization, increasing your chances of a successful summit.

Start your trek from Rongai Gate, passing through lush forest and farmlands. Overnight at Simba Camp on the edge of the moorland.

Climb gradually through heather and moorland, with wide views of the eastern ice fields. Overnight at Second Cave Camp.

Leave the main trail and head toward Mawenzi Peak. Arrive at the scenic Kikelewa Camp, surrounded by giant groundsels and unique alpine flora.

A short but steep climb up grassy slopes leads to the remote and beautiful Mawenzi Tarn, nestled beneath the towering Mawenzi spires. Great for acclimatization hikes in the afternoon.

Cross the high alpine desert to Kibo Hut, your base camp for summit night. Have an early dinner and rest before the midnight summit push.

Begin your summit attempt at midnight, reaching Gilman’s Point (5,681m) and Uhuru Peak by sunrise. After celebrating, descend to Horombo Hut for your final night on the mountain.

Descend through moorland and rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you receive your certificate and transfer back to your hotel for a hot shower and celebration dinner.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your international flight. Congratulations on reaching the Roof of Africa!
